I. Introduction
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hey, I’m JBKMDX.  The reason I decided to make a Swordsman FAQ for
Ragnarok Online is for all Swordsman to find everything they need in
one guide without having to search over so many different forums asking
the same question without anyone answering them.  Feel free to email me
any questions, comments, or criticism to:
JBKMDX@yahoo.com
AIM: JBKMDX
In RO, on the loki server:  LIQUID_SHlT
I will assume that you know a decent amount about RO(Ragnarok Online).
Because of that, this guide focuses solely on the Swordsman.  If you
want to learn about the basics of RO, go take a look at Weggy’s
wonderful FAQ.
II. Version History
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Version 1.0 - Initial Release - 5/18/02

Initial release.  Finished writing the FAQ.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
III. Vitality Swordie
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The best at tanking (taking damage), but has the slowest attack speed.
He is designed to be able to take on multiple monsters at once, while
using hp recovery to recover his hp at the same time.  Starting stats:
9 str, 1 agi, 5 vit, 1 int, 5 dex, 9 luk

Now for the vitality swordie stat guide.  Please note, that these
values include the bonuses:

Str to 10
Vit to 10
Dex to 10
Vit to 50
Str to 20
Dex to 20
Vit to 60
Str to 30
Vit to 75
Str to 70
Dex to 35
Vit to 80
Str to 100
Vit to 100

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
IV. Agility Swordie
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

He is best suited for 1-on-1 fights.  Because of his high flee,
monsters won’t be able to hit him.  He has the fastest attack speed,
but, when fighting multiple monsters at once, for each additional
monster he fights, his dodge drops 10%.  Starting stats:  9 str, 9 agi,
1 vit, 9 dex, 1 int, 1 luk

Now for the agility swordie stat guide.  Please note that these values
include the bonuses:

Dex to 15
Str to 30(why str first? because agi+low Level=weak)
Agi to 50
Dex to 25
Str to 70
Agi to 85
Dex to 35
Str to 100
Agi to 95

You can only have a maximum of 99 agility at level 99 with these stats.
You can have 105 agility by raising agility to 99, and equipping 2
brooches, or you can have 100 agility by raising agility to 97, and
equipping 1 brooch, and equip whatever other accessory you want in the
other slot.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
V. Hybrid Swordie
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

My personal favorite, the hybrid starts out with stats similar to a
vitality swordie, but stops raising vit at a point, and starts to level
agility.  This swordie is the best of both worlds.Starting stats:  9
str, 9 agi, 5 vit, 1 int, 5 dex, 1 luk

Str to 10
Vit to 10
Dex to 10
Vit to 50
Str to 20
Dex to 20
Vit to 60
Str to 30
Agi to 30
Dex to 35
Str to 70
Agi to 60
Str to 100
Vit to 70
Agi to 65

You will have some points leftover.  You can get agility to 70 by
putting 2 more points into agility, and equipping a brooch.  You can
equip 2 necklaces and raise your Vitality to 76 if you want.  At this
point, it’s up to you.

VI. Skills
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1 Handed Sword Mastery (Passive)
Increases attack damage when using 1 handed swords
Level 1  : attack +3
Level 2  : attack +6
Level 3  : attack +9
Level 4  : attack +12
Level 5  : attack +15
Level 6  : attack +18
Level 7  : attack +21
Level 8  : attack +24
Level 9  : attack +27
Level 10 : attack +30
Comments:  Always raise this to level 5.  If using 2 handed swords, you
have the option of leaving this at level 5.  I like to max this skill,
even though you are wasting 5 job skill points on it.  You only need a
level 1 endure, and Magnum Break level 3 is pretty good.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
2 Handed Sword Mastery (Passive)
Increases attack damage when using 2 handed swords
Prerequisites:  1 Handed Sword Mastery - Level 5
Level 1  : attack +3
Level 2  : attack +6
Level 3  : attack +9
Level 4  : attack +12
Level 5  : attack +15
Level 6  : attack +18
Level 7  : attack +21
Level 8  : attack +24
Level 9  : attack +27
Level 10 : attack +30
Comment:  The Knight, a soon to be 2nd class for the swordie, will only
be able to use 2 handed swords and spears, so you may just have to level
this skill up all the way.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
HP Recovery (Passive)
Increases the speed of HP recovery when sitting or standing still.
Level 1  : + 5 HP per 10 seconds
Level 2  : +10 HP per 10 seconds
Level 3  : +15 HP per 10 seconds
Level 4  : +20 HP per 10 seconds
Level 5  : +25 HP per 10 seconds
Level 6  : +30 HP per 10 seconds
Level 7  : +35 HP per 10 seconds
Level 8  : +40 HP per 10 seconds
Level 9  : +45 HP per 10 seconds
Level 10 : +50 HP per 10 seconds
Comments:  This is a must have skill for every swordie.  Max this skill
out first.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Bash (Active)
Flashy attack skill
Level 1  : 133% damage ( SP required:  8 )
Level 2  : 166% damage ( SP required:  8 )
Level 3  : 200% damage ( SP required:  8 )
Level 4  : 233% damage ( SP required:  8 )
Level 5  : 266% damage ( SP required:  8 )
Level 6  : 300% damage ( SP required: 15 )
Level 7  : 333% damage ( SP required: 15 )
Level 8  : 366% damage ( SP required: 15 )
Level 9  : 400% damage ( SP required: 15 )
Level 10 : 433% damage ( SP required: 15 )
Comments:  Get a level 5 bash at first, since the SP requirements jump
from 8 to 15 SP at level 6.  At low levels, 15 SP is a lot to spend,
and you will only be able to use it a couple of times.  Later on, when
you get a higher SP, you should max this skill out.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Magnum Break (Active)
A powerful explosion which damages & repels everything within a 3
tile radius.
SP required: 15
Level 1  : 20 Hp used, 115% of attack
Level 2  : 20 Hp used, 130% of attack
Level 3  : 19 Hp used, 145% of attack
Level 4  : 19 Hp used, 160% of attack
Level 5  : 18 Hp used, 175% of attack
Level 6  : 18 Hp used, 190% of attack
Level 7  : 17 Hp used, 205% of attack
Level 8  : 17 Hp used, 220% of attack
Level 9  : 16 Hp used, 235% of attack
Level 10 : 16 Hp used, 250% of attack
Comments:  This skill is great for mobs.  It will hit multiple monsters
around you.  The equation used to find out the damage of Magnum Break
is:  Base damage = attack * (100 + Skill Level * 15) %.  I like to get
this skill up to level 3, which leaves a level 5 provoke, and a level
1 endure.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Provoke (Active)
Reduces selected target's defense and raises attack
SP required: 10 (for all Levels)
Period of effect: 30 seconds
Level 1  : Target's attack + 2%  defense - 6%
Level 2  : Target's attack + 4%  defense - 12%
Level 3  : Target's attack + 6%  defense - 18%
Level 4  : Target's attack + 8%  defense - 24%
Level 5  : Target's attack + 10% defense - 30%
Level 6  : Target's attack + 12% defense - 36%
Level 7  : Target's attack + 14% defense - 42%
Level 8  : Target's attack + 16% defense - 48%
Level 9  : Target's attack + 18% defense - 54%
Level 10 : Target's attack + 20% defense - 60%
Comments:  Not a very useful skill, you need this skill at level 5 to
get endure.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Endure (Active)
Prevents you from flinching when hit.  Good for escaping mobs.
Prerequisites:  Level 5 Provoke
SP required: 10
Level 1  : 10 seconds
Level 2  : 10 seconds
Level 3  : 15 seconds
Level 4  : 15 seconds
Level 5  : 20 seconds
Level 6  : 20 seconds
Level 7  : 25 seconds
Level 8  : 25 seconds
Level 9  : 30 seconds
Level 10 : 30 seconds
Comments:  You only need a level 1 endure.  That’s it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
VII. Equipment
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is the best equipment for a swordie:
Left/Right Hand - Tsurugi/Shield Combination for 1 handed, Bastard
Sword for 2 handed or 2 handed sword if it comes back
Armor - Plate Mail
Robe - Manteau
Helmet - Helm
Accessories - Brooches for more agility, necklaces for more vitality
I recommend that you buy your weapons like this:  knife>blade>tsurugi.
The blade only costs 2k, so, it’s cheap, but it’s very effective until
you can afford a tsurugi.  You won’t need anything stronger in the
lower levels anyways.
Put off getting the Plate Mail until last.  The rest of the equipment,
minus the accessories of course, is cheap compared to the Plate Mail.
VIII. Where to Level
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This is a rough guide to leveling up.  You may want to stay and level
in some places longer than others.

1-12:  Stay one screen north of Morroc in the desert fighting pickys.
12-20: Rocker Field, kill rockers and hornets there.
15-20: This is another place to level, go to THE forest, one screen
south and one screen west of Payon.  Kill spores, condors, pecopecos
and wolves.  But, stay the hell away from snakes.
20-30: I recommend Payon level 1.  But, at this point, Payon level 1 is
infested with bots, and it’s laggy, so you may not want to tough it out
there.  Instead you can try culvert level 2.5 where there are no
aggressive monsters.
30-50:  Geffen level 1.  Poison spores, zombies, steel chonchons, and
golems.
35-45:  You may want to try Orc Forest instead.  Kill lots of Orcs
there.
50-60:  Payon level 2 is a decent place.  Kill the archer and soldier
skeletons.
60+:  Pyramids level 2-4, Bibilan level 3, Payon level 3,
