Versions:
v2.5 (4/15/04)

You've been wondering why I only updated today. There are many reasons why I
haven't in the past weeks, the most concrete of them all being my departure from
the wonderful world of pRO. As Weggy once put it: "I've quit RO, plain and sim-
ple."

Yes. I'm no longer a pRO player. Plain and simple.

But you may be surprise I haven't called this update the "Final" version of my
guide. No. It's not like that. I may have quit the game (for monetary reasons
and whatnot) but I'm still active in the community. Hel, I even came to the WoE
launch for an EB (of the Ragnaboarders and writers)... That proves that I'm down
but not yet out. At least, not yet. ^_^

WoE came, and so did Turtle Island and monster skills. We now have our very own
guild castles (which are sieged on a regular basis ^_^) and even more goodies.

Also, one of the reasons why I quit pRO is: the sudden inflation of JOLOGS pla-
yers. I have a friend who just sat it out on one place, regenerating HP, and no
less than 3 rude people came and said yucky things, things that your lil bro of
11 years wouldn't want to hear. Imagine that. Pucha, nananahimik lang yung tao
pinagtripan na ng mga gago.

I also went to the Undernet #ragnarok channel in IRC. I was disgusted by so many
of those swearing bastards. The channel was literally full of them. One kept
spamming about his rares for PhP, and others just kept on lambasting LUG. It's
as annoying as Hel. As if pRO became a black market for imaginary goods.

(yes, bawal talaga ang PhP Selling and Trading... let me give you a quote from
Ragnaboards... sa mga makukulit na ayaw makinig:)

+------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
I just want to talk to all the ****** out there. So, you spend real money in
order to get pretend money (or items) in your online games. Then, for the
privilege of spending (or using) that pretend money (or item) in a pretend
world on pretend things (or trading for other pretend items), you pay more
real money, every month.

What a bunch of ******* brain surgeons.
                                                                       -- Div
+------------------------------------------------------------------------------+

Wow. Gone were the days of pRO, where the word "kuya" was blocked by the message
filter. Gone were the days na kapag 2nd job ka na... wow! Ang lakas mo pare! La-
lo na kapag may pecopeco ka... Idol! ^_^

It turned out that this guide was written in vain. People just prioritize them-
selves, and neglect others' own welfare. Pag bad-trip ka, block mo yung Clock
Tower. Pag na-busted ka ng liniligawan mo, pasukin mo lahat ng chatroom na maki-
ta mo tapos gaguhin mo yung mga tao. Suddenly, pRO became a virtual world for
people to vent their frustrations at. Konting sira lang punta na sa Ragnaboards
mumurahin ang mga GM (pati na rin ang mga kawawang mods). Even this guide, which
I created exactly to stop the continuous flow of JOLOGS people didn't even help.

Parang naging Pilipinas IRL ang pRO.

You get the picture. The game suddenly lost its glitter. And yes, medyo nasira
ang buhay ko... Nyahahahaha... na-rehab na ako, sa wakas.

Reader suggestions are welcome. It's now your time to shine, people. Ang mga
mabibigay ninyong tips sa mga newbies ng pRO ang idadagdag ko na lang dito.

And I'm off to check MUonline... as well as try to finish the damned ROTK game.

Mabuhay ang pRO!

You can still see me in Ragnaboards, anyway. Resident spammer ako... ^_^

Or try this forums out: s4.invisionfree.com/AntiJolags

OT: Meron na ring Ragnarok anime. Sa Japan pa lang nilalabas. Pero sa tingin ko
ampangit. Mas ok yung fanfic ko. ^_^ Parang magiging mediocre boy-with-many-
girls anime. (pero in fairness, cute yung Tenchi-Muyo! ^_^)

v2.3 (2/1/04)

Odin and Fenrir tomorrow! OH YEAH! (I'll just hope that my RO client is fixed
when they come...)

WE LOVE YOU PAROKYA NI EDGAR AND MOONSTAR 88!!!

Hmph. Knight na lang gagawin ko. Ewan ko lang kung AGI o VIT. Basta Calimehtar
Lanshaft ang pangalan. (a Knight from my fanfic)

v2.2 (1/28/04)

Long time... Been very busy these days. Anyway, my romance with my assassin has
ended. She'll be pe into limbo until I get bored with my non-melee characters.
Or maybe I'll make a VIT spear knight. I dunno.

Sorry if I'm quite lazy... Maybe I really am. ^_^

Added more builds, refined a few things. (naks!)

Oh, and Bob Ong sure is cool. I recommend his books for a few bouts of insanity.

That's all for now, the concert's still one week away. Ugh...

^_^

Fenrir and Odin on February 2! Kita-kits sa Fenrir ha? Mage siguro ang gagawin
ko o VIT swordie.

v2.1 (1/6/04)
HAPPY NEW YEAR! ^_^

Added more builds and items and whatnot. I'm also conceptualizing (whoa!) a new
chapter which would deal with job-specific issues... (ie those hiding bastards
who would lure a Munak army to my hapless character and pick up the scraps af-
ter I waste them with my Grim Tooth)

Very busy these days... I've got lots of requests to do.

Pero astig din ang "Yes Yes Show"...

+------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
"Sandali lang! Wag muna kayo maglaban! Bago kayo magsuntukan, ba't di niyo
muna pag-usapan ang di maunawaan? Sige na, kiss na, peace na please! Ang bay-
mo sa jeepney, kulang pa ng dyis! Kung ayaw mo mangyari ang nangyari sa iba,
matuto tayo kung paano magpakumbaba! Wag nating kalimutan kung saan nagsimu-
la!"
-- Dindin Moreno, from the Parokya ni Edgar song, "The Yes Yes Show"
+------------------------------------------------------------------------------+

Amen! ^_^

v2.0 (12/21/03)
It's been a long time since I updated this FAQ. Comodo's out on pRO and there
are lots of new things to discover. I am going to cover the job quests, so never
fear!

Also, a brand new chapter(s) has been added! Go see it!

May guild na rin ako... At medyo sikat na. Daming nagpapasali sa akin... pero
puno na kami e, tanungin nila yung GM ng extension, si Mini-MP5...

My friend *CUTE* has been scammed! Putang-ina naman o!

BAKASYON NA!

Bwiset na Ataraxy 'yan, wala 'yung iniimbita ko...

*WARNING*: Loki players, mag-ingat sa isang merchant na ang pangalan ay chubaby!

v1.7 (10/25/03)
Ngehe... Test sa Monday, can't do a thing about it! Dammit, wala na silang awa!

Lapit na ng Ataraxy!

v1.6 (10/18/03)
Being a FAQ writer is very hard... Oh well! Added a few things... When I have
the time I'll make a major update.

Very, very, very busy today. As I type, the finals of our inter-school contest
on IT looms on me. Must... study... MS Office!

Oi Robert, here ya go!

v1.5 (10/11/03)
Drat. Broke my promise... But because of my hard work the exams weren't so tough
as I thought!

IRIS SUCKS! WHAT A HORRIBLE NAME! IT BRINGS BACK SUPER-SAD MEMORIES OF MEGAMAN
X4!

Sakray is a better name!

And... this new server (I won't say the name again!) I think it is a test server
for Comodo...

To those kind people... I need an Emperium in Loki, for I'm going to start a
guild for my friends... Dami nga namin e! Just e-mail me... Promise babayaran ko
rin pag mayaman na ako! (kaya nga I'm hunting Smokies for their Kitty Bands and
Cards...)

And Canto III of my fanfic is starting up... Hirap din magtype kapag may exams!

v1.4 (10/4/03)
Anak ng puta! Wala akong oras mag-update! Bad trip! (salamat sa Quarter Exam,
project sa Chem, at sa fanfic ko!)

I'll update the FAQ next week, with more goodies! Promise!

Ay oo, lapit na ng HS dance! Ataraxy!

v1.3 (9/13/03)
Wahah! Didn't do much during this week! (Intrams and the 9/11 mass, and don't
forget the convocation!)

Now, on a serious note. The aco thingie (the heal-for-free system, you know) is
deemed to failure. With all the evil, inconsiderate people all around demanding
for free heals, it pains me to see poor acos hounded by people who flood the
chatrooms!!! Now, I must take back what I said, hopefully making Rune-Midgard a
better place for acos! (who are the most mistreated people in all of RO) >_<

For the people who want free heals, if you want me to endorse the system again,
stop being an ass! Abusado kasi ang mga IBANG tao diyan, di pa kuntentong manaw-
saw o magnakaw, mangagancho pa!

I'll update this FAQ next week, since I'm pretty busy typing up my RO fanfic.
See it at ragnarok.ogaming.com! Of course, it has my name on it, so don't try to
steal it. You'll just lose the case...

Maybe I was a bit impulsive on acos, it all started in Arty's novice days... I
was training W of Geffen, and chanced upon an aco. Having almost no money and HP
left...

Arty: Please heal me...
Aco: Bayad muna! (<--- with emphasis on the "!")

In other words, na-trauma ako. I thought that acolytes were "mukhang pera", as
people would say. It turned out that SP is a very valuable thing, and sitting
down to recover it is eating up precious prepaid credit.

Sorry talaga ha, guys? -_-

Still, there are a handful of nice priests (priests only) who camp frequently
travelled places (like dungeon entrances or Orc Village) and heal EVERYONE who
passes by. Yeah! More power to you guys!

v1.2 (9/6/03)
Oh no! Now Level Up! has started the billing system!!! Put in more rules of
etiquette (don't step on a warp you haven't paid for!), as well as a brand new,
super-cool sections! YEAH!!!

PS: My friend's account got hacked. He lost at least 25k, Thieves' Clothes, as
well as 4 dolls! Whoever hacked him, please give them back. He doesn't de-
serve it! If you don't, ma-rollback sana ang character mo! Have a nice day!
    ^_^

v1.1 (8/30/03)
Put in a new subsection about choosing your character name. I don't want to see
stupid names anymore!!! Oh, and had our retreat last Tuesday/Wednesday, so no
classes on both days! YAY!!! You may notice that I removed the Mighty Mouse part
in the Credits section, baka kasi may SUMBUNGERONG BAKLA na makapansin at manum-
bong!!! Also, corrected some lame typos I made...

v1.0 (8/23/03)
First release!!!

v0.9 (8/22/03)
Now I shall put the finishing touches on my FAQ to prepare it for uploading...
Also, waiting for my friend Huey to burn a CD with the RO anime video on it!

v0.8 (8/16/03)
UPDATE!!!! I'm migrating over to Loki! Wish me luck! (I will still play in
Chaos, mind you, but I shall put more emphasis on my Loki characters) Stupid
August 13! Apparently, the server couldn't take much bandwidth from people
feverishly jamming their F5 keys for the Top-Up window to appear! Had a nice
day today, because I got to see the "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen"! Cap-
tain Nemo sure kicks some serious ass (cool goddess he's worshipping, too), and
don't forget the good doctor Jekyll!

v0.7 (8/10/03)
Touched up the newbie section of the FAQ. Stupid connection prevented me from
downloading the RO anime video! I played for about 4 hours and didn't get to
finish downloading it!!!

PS: speirs tanked my Arty lately. Benefitted a lot from his help (gained a lot
of levels). He also showed me what horrors befell Byalan 3. (stupid
    Obeanues) Thanks speirs!

v0.6 (8/07/03)
Watched Parokya's coolest video yet, "Mr. Suave"! It's really cool. I'm going
to start the newbie section of the FAQ now, and hopefully add some more quotes
to spice up the FAQ!!! Stupid exams got the better of me this day! Also, due to
the nature of my little brother's stupid exams, my RO playing time has been
considerably shortened. Stupid bastards!!!

v0.5 (8/03/03)
Updated the FAQ gradually until this day, which I will make a major update on
kill-stealing (pagsasawsaw) I hope that each and every RO player to use the
term sawsaw instead of kill-stealing. The bastards don't deserve anything
better! Oh, and saw the RO anime intro video that Gravity is into. You can
download it at "ftp://ragnarok.nefficient.co.kr/pub/ragnarok/Movie/RAGopening.
avi", without the quotes. It's really cool, when I was in Netopia one time I
would play it A LOT, thus garnering the attention of many people. Check out the
power of the ARCHER!!! (he's kinda good-looking, too) Also, Level Up! announced
that the August 4 top-up account deadline was moved to August 13. YAY!!!!!

v0.1 (7/27/03)
First version, nothing special here, except for the fact that I've got the FAQ
started.

Finally, I have mustered enough courage to write a FAQ specially intended
for the use of my Pinoy brethren!!! This FAQ will deal with common etiquette in
playing Philippine Ragnarok Online (pRO from now on) and all the info you need
to get started playing!!!

I really don't think RO needs any background info. Weggy's FAQ has very good
info on this subject, so you just look at his work!

*A NOTE ON pRO*
Level-Up Games is the company responsible for bringing Ragnarok Online to
the Philippines, but Gravity made the game itself. The game is still in Beta,
but is a great game nonetheless. As of now, the game is free, but before Septem-
ber all of us should start paying, or else suffer the loss of your account. Oh,
and check out OZ World, if you really like socializing. It's another great game
from Level-Up-Games.

1. All replies about the FAQ should have a relevant subject or else I will
regard them as spam, delete them, and block the sender.
2. No spam, death threats, hate mail, and chain letters. If your letter
contains anything listed previously, I will delete it and block you from my
list. And no, I don't want to get into flame wars, sorry. Galit na galit ako sa
mga hinayupac na chain letter na iyan. Pati nga Friendster, may chain message
naman. Pero di naman totoo (mawawala raw account mo within 14 days... ulol!)...
3. No asking for CD keys!!! 'Nuff said. (hey, is it needed anyway?!)
4. I don't chat on IRC anymore. Most of the people there are jerks, even our
sacred #HarryPotter channel has tons of jerks in it! T_T
5. Reader suggestions and contributions (like builds or so) are gladly welcome.
Just follow the guidelines above. If your contribution WILL make it
to my FAQ I will give you due credit.
6. If you provide me with a link that links to a site which STOLE my FAQ, you
will make it to the Nice People List.
7. No asking for illegal or malicious programs like Packet Generators (don't ask
what the Hel is this, okay?), Bots, and keyloggers/spyware and stuff.

*NOTE*: The following section was made possible with the great RO sage Weggy,
since it was his original idea to print the "Ten Commandments of RO" in his
FAQ, but I have enriched it specially for the Filipino RO player, hence the
fifteen commandments here. Thanks Weggy!!! I have also copied his format to make
this section as pretty as possible.

Wanna be my friend in Friendster? Just add/invite Schneider Alemannia and
I'll be sure to accept it! (unless I have a very good reason not to) And, if you
want to be an affiliate of Testament, just add/invite Testament Guild!

Oh, and while you're at it... Why not visit www.geocities.com/ssj4takoyaki?
It's my site... a portal for my fanfics. >_<

*                                  WARNING                                    *
*                                                                             *
*    YOU WILL READ THIS SECTION IN IT'S ENTIRETY, AND ABIDE BY WHAT IS SAID   *
*      HERE.  THERE ARE MANY JERKS IN RO, I DO NOT WANT TO SEE ANY MORE       *
*                                                                             *
*                                                                             *
*******************************************************************************

It shames me that I need to make a section like this.  In fact, I'm sure most
of you could skip right over it and be fine.  I still hope everyone will read
this section though, if anything else.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Thou Shalt Not Be a Jerk
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Remember that behind that graphic, there is a living and breathing person.
Like you, he/she has feelings, and deserves proper respect.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2) Thou Shalt Not Taketh Away Ones Honor... and EXP
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do NOT kill steal.  Kill stealing is attacking a monster another has already
begun to attack.  Please find your own monster, as the attacker only gets 1/2
of the normal experience.  This is also referred to as helping or jamming.

Due to Gravity's servers being hosted on a 14.4 modem, sometimes you'll see
players follow an enemy, but always be a few seconds behind them.  You'll see
yourself doing it.  This is because of lag.  LEAVE THEIR ENEMY ALONE!  This
is just as bad as kill stealing, IMO.

Cooralary to Commandment 3: It is okay to Kill Steal if someone asks for help,
usually indicated by using that emote.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3) Thou Shalt Not Taketh Ones Crap
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do NOT loot.  Looting is taking the items from a monster that you did not
kill.  If, after a guy kills something, and walks off without picking up the
stuff, by all means take it.  You'll find very often people leave Jellopies
and other less valuable things lying around, so if your a newbie, go ahead
and take them.  Always give them back if they ask for them though.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4) Thou Shalt Not Lag Down Servers with their "Jackass-ness"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do NOT bot.  There is a program(s), somewhere out there on the net, that
will level your character automatically for you.  All it does is loot and kill
steal from honest players, and take up bandwidth for real users.  You are also
violating Gravity's TOS by using one.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5) Thou Shalt Not be a l33t h4x0rz
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do NOT hack.  This includes doing crazy stuff like duplicating items or zeny,
or exploiting bugs in the program.  All you are doing is hurting the economy,
so in the end you are hurting yourself.  Not to mention Gravity likes to
Rollback the servers when people do dumb stuff like that.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6) Thou Shalt Respect the Services of Merchants
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Before speaking with a discount merchant, please check to make sure you have
enough zeny for the item you intend to purchase.  Most offer 20 or 15 percent
off, so the math is not difficult.  Also, if you don't have the money, don't
ask the merchant to sell you the item at a considerably lower price.  Discount
merchants dont make that much of a profit, and none of them are willing to pay
for some of your item out of their own pocket.  Also, after you have agreed
to purchase the item, you are bound by a verbal contract to buy it.  Don't try
to worm your way out.

About overcharge Merchants as well - Don't bother to give them anything that
sells for 6z or less, because you won't get any extra zeny that way.  So just
sell it yourself.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7) Thou Shalt Not screw other Merchants over
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When you changed class, the NPC said something about a 20% rule, meaning you
should DC everything for 20% and keep the 4%.  FOLLOW IT.  I constantly see
some people DCing for 22% where other Merchants around them have been DCing for
20%.  That has to be the dumbest thing I've ever seen.  Whats going to happen
when you offer 22%?  Other Merchants are going to offer 22% as well, and then
your back to square one.  Your not going to get any more business than usual,
people are just looking for Reds or Armor - nobody is going to travel from say,
Izlude to Prontera for your fantastic 2% extra DC.  Then your both going to get
in a price war and wind up getting nothing.  In the perfect RO world, 15% DC
would be the standard price, but methinks the public wouldn't take too kindly
to that.  But then again, most don't know how little 4% is.

This also means Reds are 40z.  Not 39z, 40z.  Of course, if your an educated RO
user, you know Carrots are better anyway, so its irrelevent. ^_^

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
8) Thou Shalt Not Beg Mercenaries of God for his forgiveness
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Acolytes are not your personal, walking red potion.  Most will give you a
heal if you ask nicely though.  Asking nicely would be "If it's not too much
trouble, could I have a heal?" or "Can you please heal me?".  "HEAL PLZ" and
"HEAL NOW" will not do.  As I always tell people, if your too lazy to even
write out "please", you don't deserve a heal.  If the Acolyte does heal you,
be sure and say thanks.  Also, feel free to tip them.  About 20z for every 100
HP is good.  They also really like Blue gems for thier warps.

And please tip them if one helps you or the Blacksmith you hired to forge.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
9) Thou Shalt Not be a Lazy Bum
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please don't beg for money.  We all know novices are poor, and you will be
until around level 25.  We all had to go through exactly what you did.  So just
be patient.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
10) Thou Shalt Not Attempt to Steal from their Fellow Players
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Don't scam, and don't fall for scams.  The less people that fall for them,
the less scammers will do them!  Popular scams are offering to "upgrade" your
weapon for you, which you can just go yourself.  Or, selling items for 1 digit
more than usual.  So a 100z item would become a 1100z item, hoping nobody would
notice.  Unfortunantly, people are dumb enough too.  Just remember, caveat
emptor, and if something sounds way too good to be true, it probably is.

And Weggy sayeth, "Let there be order in RO!"  Then the crowds respondeth,
"**** off you little ****** ******!"  Then Weggy wept...

*Here Weggy's hand stops and TAKOYAKI takes over*

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
11) Thou Shalt Respect Newbies and Treat them Nicely
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I really don't think this should need much elaborating. All of us went through
the newbie stage once, so we must help and welcome newcomers to the game nicely.
Remember, yesterday's Novice might be tomorrow's uber-Blacksmith-GM. Be aware of
this fact, and never forget it as long as you play RO. If they ask for directi-
ons, please give them correct ones. Don't make them go to Glast Heim when they
ask you where Payon is.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
12) Thou Shalt Not Annoy Complete Strangers with Deals and Party Membership
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's really annoying when you're travelling let's say, from Izlude to Prontera.
Not only the Izlude-Prontera route is literally littered (whoa!) with Novices,
some of them actually have the gall to invite you into their party!!! Ha! As if
you need some "assistance", you know. Well, this thing wastes time, and is very
annoying, not to mention insulting!!! Also, don't deal until you've talked
about what to barter, it's as annoying as getting invited to a party by a
complete stranger... I even had some people invite my partyless Swordie to their
gang. They said something like: "Babe, gusto mo ng party?" I politely turned
down their offer.

Also, never, ever, deal Merchants without their proper consent!!! This will put
them into a murderous mood, which may cause them to close shop and seek
customers elsewhere, which will make other people pay for your jackass-ness.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
13) Thou Shalt Not be an Incessant Whining Asshole
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do not, I repeat, do not complain about your computer lagging. Nobody cares
about your modem speed ("f****** 56k modem!!!!!") or your lousy computer. We
just want to have fun playing the game, and if we do really want to know, we'll
ask you. So f*** off.

*REMEMBER*: We don't need to know that you're f***ing lagging. Spamming the mes-
sage box with things like "LAGNAROK!" or "LLLLAAAAAAGGGGGGGG" will
only increase the lag that we're all experiencing. It's a waste of
bandwith! We don't need to be told.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
14) Thou Shalt Not Call People Names, Unless the Situation Merits so (SAWSAW!)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A lot of people tend to forget that there is a person behind that cuddly
character sprite. Some people tease others because they like it, or they are
just jackasses who want to ruin other's fun. Commonly-used names are bakla,
jologs, tanga, bobo, or even puta! This isn't very nice, you can hurt people in
doing so. Remember, we play to have fun, so be nice to everyone! (except
kill-stealers, jackasses, and bums) For those who do, isang PrtSc ka lang, tapos
kang gago ka!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
15) Thou Shalt Respect Other People's Privacy
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Never, ever ask for a person's telephone number on RO. Even while whispering.
Hackers are everywhere. Someone might be looking behind your shoulder and stalk
you or your chatmate. Don't also ask someone's address or personal info that
might lead to them ("Which mall do you hang out in?"). Not only is this an
invasion of our privacy, it leaves people open to stalkers and the evil scum of
society. For all we know, your online "friend" is really a dangerous serial
killer!!! (God forbid!) ASL is okay, but don't give your exact location. Don't
say the EXACT street where you live in!

\/\/\/                             \/\/\/

Never, ever give out personal information that might damage someone's
identity. Also, don't give out your address, telephone number, or even the
places where you hang out. You never know what the true intention of your
"friend" is. Also, please do not ask for someone's real name, even in private.
You have been warned. (although I confess that I once was guilty of breaking
this rule!)

Don't force people to join your party, or force them to do anything against
their will. If you see a high-leveled character in Byalan 2 don't force them to
go to Glast Heim or Clock Tower just because his Sonic Blow turns your Lvl 36
Thief green with envy. Everyone of us has free will, so respect it. Just because
you have the strongest guild in Rune-Midgard doesn't mean that you can boss
anyone around.

+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
"Ako si Mr. Suave! Ooooo grabe! Habulin ng babae!"
-- from the Parokya ni Edgar song, "Mr. Suave"
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+

When dealing with your online friends, please don't ask personal questions
like "how old are you"? It's an invasion of privacy, and come to think of it,
do you really think that that person would speak the truth? Of course, we have
the right to protect our name and identity. And gender too. Never tease a guy
who plays with a female character. I have lots of male friends with girl char-
acters. And why don't you look at yourself? Have you ever played an FF game be-
fore? Yes? Then how do you explain Rosa, Rydia, Reina, Faris, Krile, Terra,
Celes, Relm, Tifa, Yuffie, Aeris, Agrias, Meliadoul, Reis, Rafa, Rinoa, Quistis,
Selphie, Yuna, Rikku, Lulu, and Paine? Huh? HUH???!!!

If someone tells you to meet up with him/her IN PERSON, NEVER, ever, honor
his/her request!!! Odin knows what kind of person he/she is. It's very hard to
believe this, but, you don't get to see who you're talking to in person. Anyone
can lie or claim to be someone he/she isn't.

Mind your manners, don't butt into a conversation when you don't know a
thing about the subject, don't burp online (ewwww), keep your morbid/maniacal
fantasies to yourself (I had someone hound my character saying "I love you"
which really ticked me off!), and don't blurt out your worst enemy's wet dreams
and bathroom habits. Whenever you're online or offline, it makes good sense to
apply these saying. Manners maketh a man, right?

Oh, and don't be an antisocial git! Say hi to other people, be a good citizen
of Rune-Midgard by pointing out directions to lost people, and socialize! RO is
all about socializing. No person is an island, as some people would say. I know,
you are not obliged in any way to answer someone's greetings with yours, but it
shows that you are a good person who has proper etiquette. Remember... say hi!

If you, in any way possible, committed the horrible crime of kill-stealing,
don't wait for what's coming, say sorry immediately!!! As in immediately!!! You
have been warned.

Don't hound/stalk a player unless he did something bad (like kill-stealing).
This gives them the idea that you are an uncouth, savage, barbarian with no
manners at all. Hounding some bloke who kill-stealed you is okay, yes, make him
pay! But hounding a complete stranger whom you just met saying "I love you! I
love you!" is very, very, un-gentlemanly/ladylike of you. Other than that, just
use your common sense.

+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
"Look, I am not Shakira okay? So please, stop, bugging, THE HELL OUT OF ME!"
-- That girl from the MTV NJOY commercial
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+

Oh, and in this game, trust is essential! Trust kicks in when dealing with
merchants, warping acos, tanking priests/knights, and parties! The first thing
that you should do is to trust one another, and NEVER, EVER try to break some-
one's trust! Not only is this very EVIL, it destroys your very dignity as a man
of your word. And don't make promises that you can't keep!

+------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
"Parang tiwala, pag nasira na, mahirap ng ayusin pa!"
-- from the Parokya ni Edgar song, "Choco Latte"
+------------------------------------------------------------------------------+

Don't step on a warp that you haven't paid for! Leave them alone!!! The aco
is working hard to earn money, and you just step on a warp without paying
anything at all? That's as unfair as Hel! It pains me to see that there are a
lot of people who are still like this. Mga mangagancho, ika nga. It's not right,
stepping on a warp you haven't paid for, parang nakalibre ka na nun, ha? Hirap
pa naman kumuha ng Blue Gemstone... Sa Glast Heim ka sana mapunta, gago.

*sheepish grin* You may have noticed from earlier versions of this FAQ that
this paragraph was saying dumb things like "heal-for-free"... People aren't that
kind any more, they abuse the kindness of acos... So... I... shall... have... TO
TAKE BACK WHAT I HAVE SAID!!!!!!!

After getting some extensive research on the aco playing mentality, most of
them are now scared to death of going near the dungeons (where most people sit
around to recover HP and SP), since people will ALWAYS stand up, surround the
poor bloke, and ask for a heal. The poor aco is cornered! If he/she says no, the
people will say something like "Damot mo naman!", and if he/she does heal them
all, more will come and some will even ask for more (hey, that F4 Pepsi commer-
cial comes into my mind!)!!! Also, in interviewing seasoned acos, they told me
that gaining SP is a different thing from recovering HP... Blue Herbs are rare,
you know!

For non-acos, please be considerate of aco players, as they spend hard-earned
SP to give you a hand. Please thank them for their effort. Wag kayong
mangungulit ng aco, dahil masama iyon! Acolytes don't have the skill SP Recovery
yet, which is only available to priests. So go ahead, go to that priest first...
In my experience, bihira mag-heal ang mga aco. Pero ang priest (sa Loki ha),
papansinin ka kaagad. Sa Chaos di ko alam, baka sa sobrang dami ng taong nagpa-
paheal ay hindi na lang pinapansin ng mga priest ang mga tao. Dami kasi e.

Bottom Line: If you don't like to be pestered by people asking for a heal, then
don't be an aco at all. It's that simple. You're doing yourself a
favor if you don't be an aco, since my aco friends have higher than
normal blood pressure, and most of them are still in their teens!

Still, acos and priests rule! There's nothing like an Angelus/Blessing on
your side when getting overwhelmed by a mob!!! And don't forget the super-cool
Kyrie, you know...

Nauso na rin ang hinayupak na Clock Tower blocking. Basically, people block
the entrance to the Clock Tower in Al De Baran. Nakakabwiset. May tarantadong
merchant nga, humarang, tapos nag-vend ng red for 1k. 40 reds pa. Naasar yung
mga gustong magpa-level sa Clock Tower, kaya pinagpyestahan. Talaga naman ang
mga pinoy... Onli in da Pilipins! (mamaya isang buong guild na ng "Kings of Al
De Baran" ang mang-scam ngayon amp)

|_pRO_|| Kill-Stealing, its Effects, and How to Spot it (Pagsasawsaw) ||_pRO_|
|_pRO_||______________________________________________________________||_pRO_|
\  |  ||                                                              ||  |  /
\/\/\/                                                                \/\/\/

A lot of people misinterpret the term kill-stealing. So I'll explain what it
is, its effect on the RO community, and how to spot it.

+--------------------------------+
What Kill-Stealing Does to You
+--------------------------------+

1. First, if you get kill-stealed, you get considerably lower EXP and Job EXP
as a reward. As you see, this sucks!
2. Second, the kill-stealer gets his/her EXP painlessly, without the risk of
death. Ha! As if you agreed to tank him/her!!!
3. Third, it is very dishonorable (you use someone as fodder and steal his/her
EXP too!) and at the same time, very, VERY, annoying.

+---------------------------+
How to Spot Kill-Stealing
+---------------------------+

1. Kill-Stealing is attacking a monster while someone has already engaged it in
combat. Whenever it be a provoked, or a Magic Sense monster prepared to gnaw on
the Wizard next to you, if you attack it while someone is fighting it, you are
already kill-stealing. Sawsaw ka!
2. If more than one people attack a monster simulteneously, it is not kill-
stealing. You have just killed the monster with some help. So if you clicked on
the monster at relatively the same time, or approaching a monster in hopes of
attacking it while others are also planning to attack it, you are not
kill-stealing. In Tagalog, di ka sawsaw, pare. It's really hard to avoid, so
just find another monster if you see others approach it while you haven't
attacked it yet.
3. If you see someone yell for help, whenever it be an emoticon or a chat
message, help immediately! This is not kill-stealing. Of course, you have the
right NOT to help, if the monster is overwhelming (like a Wanderer), or if you
don't feel like it. Keep this in mind when someone flames you because you didn't
help him/her and he/she died fighting that monster.
4. If you see someone running from a monster, by all means do not attack that
monster in hopes of getting a "Thank you" from that person. However, if you SEE
an aggressive monster attack someone you also SEE, and that person does not do
anything about it or tries to run away, you can fight and kill that monster.
However, if you just see someone running away from a something, don't intervene.
I do it all the time with my Mage, nuking a slow monster and running away from
it until it goes back to peaceful living, and nuke it again. Rinse and repeat.
^_^
4. If you are in a party, and have your party members with you, and you do any
of the signs of kill-stealing above, don't fret! You are not kill-stealing. In
a party, you help each other, even if it means taking some EXP. We all want to
have friends with us, don't we?

"Sino nagsabi sa iyong sumawsaw kang puta ka?"
                                                     -- NeWbIe, Wizard Adept
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+

This is a favorite chapter of mine! Now that you are kill-stealed, you can
virtually disregard the Fifteen Commandments of RO (maybe except for that
hacker part, you know). It's sawsaw-bashing time!

*NOTE*: I shall now use the term "sawsaw" in exchange for kill-stealing!!!

*MAGES ALERT!*: Please don't be too hot-headed when someone kills the monster
you are casting a spell at. It's really hard to avoid, and
please don't make it worse by starting a fight! Just say "okay
lang" or something similar. Of course, if the perpetrator keeps
on kill-stealing you, go ahead, fire away!

1. You can ignore the sawsaw, as if nothing happened. Of course, we SHOULD do
something, you know?
2. Yell immediately (all caps) SAWSAW!!! Then follow him/her and draw an ASCII
arrow pointing to the sawsaw, like: "<--- SAWSAW!!!" (if he/she is on your
left). Continue this for a few moments and follow the sawsaw until he/she knows
what horrible deed he/she committed until you make him/her say sorry.
3. Inform a GM about the person who kill-stealed you. As you see in our cool
transition screen (for pRO players only!), "Kill-stealing is a crime. Be
considerate of your fellow users, or else..." That else means whatever action
the GM shall undertake... ~_^ (oh, and jam the PrtSc key since you need some
concrete evidence to pin down the sawsaw, or call CSI Rune-Midgard! *laughs at
his own corny joke*)
4. Do nothing, but tell to anyone who would listen that *insert sawsaw's name
here* kill-stealed me in *insert location where you were kill-stealed*!!! Feel
free to elaborate or romanticize as you want, but don't make the story too
bogus or incredible, or what you did will bounce back to you! Now everyone
knows that that person is sawsaw!
5. Fool him around. Say something like: "What if I stole some stuff from you?"
(if you're a Thief/Assassin and they're not a Thief/Assassin/Avatar of Death,
you know) and try tailing him. And if he does die... LAUGH LIKE HEL!!!!!!! (Hel
is the ruler of the underworld in Norse mythology, and she is half beautiful
woman, half stinking corpse! Because of her vileness and cruelty the Christians
adopted her name as their place of eternal damnation. Tremble in fear.)
6. Say something like "Hello sawsaw!", and hound the sawsaw continually broad-
casting the message to all. Continue with "It's great to steal hard-earned EXP
from others, right, sawsaw?", and if he continues to sawsaw on someone or you
for that matter, say "Wow! What a great sawsaw!!!" Continue until bored or the
sawsaw is really pissed off to the point that he/she uses up a Wing of Fly to
escape your clutches... ^_^ For a added effect, type in english and exchange
dip-dip in place of sawsaw (sawsaw means "dip" or "to dip"). Parang coño, ika
nga! Or type in taglish (tagalog with some english or vice versa). "Wow, he's
so galing in dip-dip!!! Angsaya-saya if you make nakaw-nakaw hard-earned EXP
from people, right?" Or you could just ask him/her "Anong level ng SAWSAW skill
mo?"
7. Embarass the sawsaw. Keep saying, "Aaaaaaaayyyyyyyy!!!!!! Nakakabading si
*sawsaw*!!! Kamukha kasi ni Dao Ming S***/Hua S*** Lei/S*** Men!!!!!!!" or the
like (Remember, this only works for Filipinos or those who know F4, which
stands for Flower 4, but most of my peers say that F4 really means f***** 4,
but that's another story. If you want to, you can substitute a member of the
Hunks! For best results, choose Carlos Agassi...). If the sawsaw is female,
substitute Jolina/Heart or your favorite Sex Bomb Dancer, or Mahal/Mura, and
change "Nakakabading" in favor of "Nakaka-inlove". Of course, if you're using a
female character, you know what to do, interchange! Prepare for a big blast if
the sawsaw is coñotic... For best results, type in all CAPS and broadcast to
all!!! Oh, no offense for the fans of the aforementioned celebrities, it's just
really embarrassing for the sawsaw to be compared to any of the celebs mention-
ed above.
8. Challenge the sawsaw to fight in the PvP Arena. 'Nuff said. Be sure that
you can take him/her on, or you'll be sorry... And don't you dare think that
girls are the weaker sex! I've heard that the Shadow Maidens whoop some series
ass.

*NOTE*: A word of caution: do not threaten the sawsaw with trojans, viruses, or
malicious material!!! Doing so may incite the sawsaw to tell a GM about
your threats, and YOU will get to be punished. I don't want someone's
hard drive getting wiped out because of a kill-stealing incident, since
it's not just. It's like condemning someone to death because of petty
theft. (hey, that sorta rhymes! ^_^) And, if the sawsaw is playing with
you in a net cafe, NEVER, EVER, lay a hand on him/her. In fact, don't
even try to make him/her know that you are his/her tormentor. That
person could be dangerous... I am also not responsible if you get
hacked or something by what you're doing. Please use the above
techniques at your wise discretion. They are all just suggestions, you
know. The safest way is to ignore the person and report him/her to a
GM. Of course, make a request to the GM not to reveal your identity.
And, if the sawsaw says sorry, stop at once!!! I created this
sawsaw-bashing techniques to inform people that kill-stealing is bad
        for everyone.

*Author's Note*: As a nice person, I do not bash kill-stealers. I just say "Wag
po" and "Wag please" to ward them off. And it works even better
than when I used to bicker with them. Sometimes being nice
works better than being an ass. Thanks to aZmeeR_07 whom I got
the idea from... 'Stig ka! ^_^

|_pRO_|| How to Deal with the Jerks, Assholes, and Jackasses of pRO ||_pRO_|
|_pRO_||____________________________________________________________||_pRO_|
\  |  ||                                                            ||  |  /
\/\/\/                                                              \/\/\/

Now that we know how to deal with f****** sawsaws, we can turn to face the
daily assholes of pRO! Join me as we eradicate the stupid morons!!! But first,
we must first take a look on some popular scams, before we fall prey to them!

+-------+
Scams
+-------+
1. Beware of "**% DC on all store items. Pay first"! Especially if the person
is not a merchant/blacksmith. You have been warned. An exception to this rule
are forging blacksmiths and warp acolytes/priests, very few of them will try to
scam you. Well, if they did, they would lose their rep, won't they?

*Author's Note*: There's a way around this "losing your rep" thingie. The jerk
could just use a Wing of Butterfly to get to a save point far,
far away from the victim, and would allow him/her to scam more
people! So, beware!!! If there's something I hate its scamming
merchants/blacksmiths... (I really don't know about the acos,
though, I've never seen one scam)

2. Do not fall for scams such as: "You have won the *blahblahblah* contest!
Claim your price by giving us your account name and password!" Gravity and
Level-Up! will never, ever, ask for your password, they don't need to know it.
It's just like Diablo II all over again. You give your account name, and then
after playing you decide to rest for a while, after a few minutes you open up
your account and you see that all your characters are gone!!!!! And Deckard
Cain knows what happened to all your stuff... Imagine your SOJ-filled stash and
perfect 20% RD Vampiregaze gone in a flash... F****** S***!!!!!!!!!!
3. If there is a person offering to "upgrade" your weapon for you, ignore him/
her. You can do it yourself anyway.
4. Some people sell their stuff 1 digit more. So a 50z item would become 500z.
Don't be fooled, consult Weggy's FAQ! Though his prices may not be thoroughly
accurate for pRO players, they give you a clear idea of their relative value. Or
better yet, price check on Ragnaboards!
5. Check the items shown on the trade screen before finalizing the trade. A lot
of evil scammers put the item you want on the window (like a slotted Manteau),
and say something like "w8 muna", and cancel the trade. Then, they will ask to
get on with the trade, but instead of putting the slotted Manteau in the trade
box, they'll put an ordinary Manteau that looks identical, but isn't really the
item you'll want! OUCH! Many people do this! Don't be fooled, double, no, TRIPLE
check their items! (and yours, too!)

+----------------------------+
What exactly makes a jerk?
+----------------------------+

First, we must determine what actually makes someone a jerk.

1. A jerk does not CORRECTLY answer a nicely asked question. He may either
ignore you, or manilosopo (I once had my novice Loki character ask a swordie
where to level up, and he said, "Kahit saan"), or maybe even call you names!
("T@ng@ ka ba? Eto lang ang Culvert o, b0b0!!!)
2. Any scammer is automatically a jerk. 'Nuff said.
3. Jerks steal EXP (SAWSAW!) and hard-earned items. Eventhough they know that it
was you who killed that Orc Zombie, they will still get the Emperium and keep
it (if you haven't noticed it and picked it up yourself) for themselves.
4. Anyone who does not respond to someone's greeting (like "Hi") without any
valid reason (lag or being AFK comes into mind) is a jerk! I really hate
these people. Antisocial gits! Say hello for a change!!! Whatever level you
may be, you should still return someone's greeting. Bawal ang manhid sa pRO!
Yep, even GMs aren't excluded from this rule! Even if you're absurdly power-
ful, it still makes sense to respect every character you see as a living,
   breathing, person who has feelings!
5. Wizards who abuse the spell Ice Wall (ie they cast it in towns and in places
that hamper other people's mobility) are jerks. Get a life and cast Ice Wall
   somewhere else.
6. Jeerers ("aha, patay sa rocker!"), arrogant people ("talo kayo sa auto-blitz
ko!"), and flooders are also jerks. I don't need to elaborate any further.

+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
"Ewan ko! Sandali! Wag ka ngang makulit! Kung ayaw mong masipa sa mukha ng
                                                                  malupit!!!"
-- Chito Miranda, from the Parokya ni Edgar song, "The Yes Yes Show"
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+

Jerks are the AIDS of Rune-Midgard. They are communicable, incurable, and
multiply like Hel. Please be a good boy/girl and don't follow the road to jerk-
hood. Should you do, may araw ka rin gago ka! Maybe not sooner but later, when
you recieve your Jinchuu (punishment from the heavens exacted by a human being),
you'll realize that you should've followed my unsolicited advice! At least it's
not Tenchuu, you know.

+------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
"This is Jinchuu! Feel the pain and regret, the guilt of taking away my
                                                        sister's happiness!!!"
-- Enishi Yukishiro, Rurouni Kenshin Seisouhen OVA
+------------------------------------------------------------------------------+

Now that we know what makes a jerk, let's get 'em!

+--------------------------------------+
What to do with the evil scum of RO!
+--------------------------------------+

1. Tell them that they are a jerk. 'Nuff said.
2. Report the jerk to a GM! Yes! Even Icewalling Wizards are liable for this, I
   saw it in Gravity's website!
3. Blabber to anyone who would listen that *insert jerk's name here* is a jerk.
Of course, please do state a reason!
4. Eto ang malupit... ISUMBONG SA RAGNABOARDS! Go to the General Discussion for-
um, and... create a new thread like: "*insert jerk's name here* is a jerk for
   *insert reason here*!

More jerk-bashing techniques to come... Reader's suggestions welcome!

Coal Mine, Orc Vill, and Lutie! (oh no, not in the prison... just plain Lutie)
This is great for those dumb ones who don't know what a Warp Portal is and how
it works. Be careful if the jerk is quick... Or you've wasted a Blue Gemstone.]

*NOTE*: You can no longer put a warp under a person. It's better that way... A-
lam ba ninyo na ang "Priest ng Bayan" ay nagwa-warp ng mga leecher sa
GH Prison? My wiz friend in Chaos was warped by a big-ass priest before
his Storm Gust finished casting on the Moonlight Flower during a guild
trip. Putang-ina... MVP sana iyon (pre-Comodo)!

Deny him your healing services. If the jerk has the gall to ask a heal from
you, DON'T. A variation of this is to make the jerk guilty by bombing him with
heals as if he/she were a Wraith, while expletives shoot out from your mouth...
(or your character's)

Jerk: (after kill-stealing) Paheal po.

Ginawa na ng guildmate ko ito sa mga ungas sa Al De Baran... Angkukulit ba at
mga peste... Hay nako... ang "Priest ng Bayan" nga naman o.

[You could also cast Speed Down on him. 'Nuff said.]

*NOTE*: This also doesn't work anymore. >_<

Or you could heal the monster he/she is attacking repeatedly. Careful about
the undead, they might call you a kill-stealer for that.
You could also buff the monster with a Blessing (if you do this to undead,
they'll get cursed instead), a Kyrie (this never fails to make someone mad) or
an Agi Up. Someone did this to me in Payon Cave 2 when I wasn't doing anything.
But I stilled killed the Magnolia without a scratch. Bah. What a waste of 200+
SP (he also healed the Magnolia when it was dying).
Lure an entire mob of monsters to the jerk, then Teleport away. My friend
Robert did this to an annoying assassin in GH Prison. Hunter Flies... ^_^
A similar motif is to use a Dead Branch right in front of him, then Teleport
away. This is especially good to those wizard dweebs who show off the power of
their LoV to the point that everyone in the map is lagging like crazy. Ouch.
Ruwach the jerk when he/she Hides.
Challenge him/her to a party PvP, and WIN (this is very important). This is
where acos and priests rock! Go get 'em!
   Lex Aeterna! OUCH!!!
Or you can Lex Divina him/her... Major ouchies for wizards who don't know how
to stop casting that stupid Ice Wall that blocks everyone's way. Also works on
show-offs.

+------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
"Shut up, just shut up, shut up!"
-- The Black Eyed Peas, from the song "Shut Up"
+------------------------------------------------------------------------------+

   Pwede ka ring maging pilosopo...

Like this:

Jerk: PvP na lang, baka umiyak ka sa Double-Strafe ko!
You: G@G0! I-heal kita diyan e!
Jerk: Ano naman ang magagawa ng heal mo g@g0?
You: I-heal kita diyan g@g0! (stands up and bombs the jerk with heals) G@G0!
Jerk: (lags and does not react)
You: (laughing diabolically) Patay ka sa akin ungas... /gg

*casts a Dead Branch in front of the jerk, and seeing that the summoned monster
is Baphomet, Teleports away*

You can also trick the jerk into joining your party/guild, then kicking the
jerk out when he/she joins. This is very embarrasing... This works for everyone
but acos have an advantage because EVERYONE wants an aco/priest in their party.
Rinse and repeat.

So, you decided to pursue an intimate relationship online, huh? Then let me
be your guide! But first, let me state the Golden Rule:

+------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
"Do unto others what you want others to do unto you."
                                                           -- The Golden Rule
+------------------------------------------------------------------------------+

Read it as many times as you can until you fully understand its nature. Got
it now? Then follow it. Seriously.
Seriously, having a boyfriend/girlfriend in RO is a really cool thing. Not
only do you get to brag about it ("Kami na ni GM-Christy!") you'll have someone
to care for you, to guide you, to safeguard you, and to be with you when others
cannot/will not. Also, if that's not enough, you can even get married together!
(read Weggy's FAQ for details) YEAH!!!
   Now, let's start!!!

PS: A word of caution! Remember the greatest virtue in dealing with people! It's
respect! Respect is the key to pursuing an online intimate relationship with
someone. No respect, no GF/BF!!! Also, always keep the 1st Commandment of RO
in mind when in the act of courtship... You have been warned. I created this
section to educate people about proper courtship (don't worry, I have lots
of experience in this particular subject), since I see a lot of people get
broken hearts in dealing incorrectly with online intimate relationships!
(Sugarfree's recent video "Burnout" comes into my mind...)

+---------------------------------------------------------+
Basic Words of Wisdom by the Super Saiyajin Takoyaki 4!
+---------------------------------------------------------+

1. Please be kind to your online BF/GF. Don't treat him/her like a serf that be-
longs to you and has no rights whatsoever. Whoever he/she may be in real
life, he/she is still a living, breathing, human being, and demands proper
   respect.
2. Do not ask for too many gifts from your online BF/GF! In fact, don't ask for
gifts at all, bar an occasional Flower for the "kilig" factor (I tested it
and it really works!). Para kasing ang habol mo lang sa kanya ay yung mga
   materyal na bagay... Masama iyon!
3. Don't ask too many personal questions! These questions are not really needed,
anyway, and this could mean an invasion of privacy! So what if your online GF
is really played by a guy? There's nothing wrong with that! Online nga, e! In
online relationships, it's the voice of the character (which defines him/her
and not the person controlling the character) that counts! Character sprites
aren't important! What matters is the person is nice, fun to be with, is not
horny (I really hate this kind of people) and doesn't use the relationship
   for his/her personal gain!

More to come... Dammit, seasoned Don Juans here... I need your help!

|_pRO_||__________________________||_pRO_|
\  |  ||                          ||  |  /
\/\/\/                            \/\/\/

Hey ya? Want to create a character? Whenever you decide him/her to be a hardy
Knight, a stealthy Assassin, or a spell-casting, monster-blasting Wizard, you
should first plan on your stat and skill allocation, or you'll get a substand-
ard, mess-of-a-character. Plan carefully and you'll get a great character which
you'll have fun with for many months.

+---------------------------------------------------+
How to create the perfect name for your character
+---------------------------------------------------+

To create a character first you must input a name for him/her. Sadly, good
names are very rare in this game! So I'm here to change that fact...

First, let me define the "perfect" name for your character.

1. It is easy to remember
2. It is easy to type when the need for whispering comes (not something like
-=CH@0$_BL@D3CL3@V3R=- or something, avoid using special characters, you'll
look like a punk)... Damn you Cyrus! Di namin ma-whisper hunter mo!
3. It matches the gender of your character (no need for explanations...)
4. It is not corny (avoid names such as "Dao Ming Shoes" or the like)
5. It has flair and style (go for formal prefixes like "Lady" or "Sir")
6. It reflects your personality (this is where you come in)
7. It fits your character (don't type in "Raijin Cid" if your character is going
   to be an archer!)
8. It is easy to relate with (don't get an obscure character from Tolkien's
   Middle-Earth! *cough*Elros Tar-Minyatur*cough*)
9. It is not done to death! Avoid words like Dark, Shadow, Assassin, Blade,
Angel, Demon, Hunter, Killer, Knight, and the like. They're hopelessly used
and overused. Also, avoid choosing the name of your favorite anime character
that's done to death! I've seen at least a dozen Kenshins and a new brood of
Kenjis swarming over the world of Rune-Midgard. Please choose more imagina-
   tive names!
10. And last but definitely not the least, it's yours!!! (no impersonating)

Keep in mind these things when choosing a name your character! Of course you
may break any of the rules above to suit your style, but please, please, always
adhere to rule #9!!! I read from Gravity's website that it is a crime to imper-
sonate someone! Don't say I didn't warn you!

+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
The Super Saiyajin 4 Takoyaki debunks the cryptic meanings of your stats!!!
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+

*NOTE*: Most of the info here were derived from common knowledge, experience,
and from other FAQs. Don't worry, I won't plagiarize!

*Legend*:
Strength      = STR
Agility       = AGI
Vitality      = VIT
Dexterity     = DEX
Intelligence  = INT
Luck          = LUK
Attack        = ATK
Magic Attack  = MATK
Defense       = DEF
Magic Defense = MDEF
Hit           = HIT
Flee          = FLEE
Attack Speed  = ASPD

STR: Is the stat that raises your maximum weight limit. In multiples of 2 and
10, this stat raises your ATK power. STR is of utmost importance to
Swordsmen, Thieves, Merchants, and Battle Acolytes since all these 3 jobs
fight hand-to-hand (except for Bow Thieves, that is).
AGI: A stat most jobs can't do without. AGI ups your ASPD, and increases your
FLEE, making it both an offensive and defensive stat. Whatever you do, you
should have at least 40-50 AGI regardless of your job (except for VIT
Swordies, CRIT Archers, MVPing Wizards/Priests and/or forging Blacksmiths)
VIT: This stat not only raises your max HP, it also adds some DEF, which
reduces damage by its amount (except for armor defense) Swordsmen,
Blacksmiths, and Acolytes need this stat to have a decent level.
DEX: Raises your HIT, and minimum melee weapon damage. For Bow Thieves and
Archers, this stat raises your ATK like STR for bows. Important for Mages
and Acolytes, since this stat also shortens casting time. For Bow Thieves
and Archers, this should be your main stat, as this strengthens your bow
damage. All others, get to at most 30, which is enough, except if you're a
critical Assassin, then get this. Also raises your ASPD to some minor
     extent.
INT: Raises your MATK, MDEF, your SP recovery and your max SP. Actually, MDEF
is useless as of now, since monsters don't have access to spells, while
you're better off raising your more important stats if you're a melee
fighter. Of course, for Mages and Acolytes, this IS the stat to raise.
LUK: One of my friends said that LUK actually improves your chance to get
better drops. I really can't comment on that, since all my characters have
1 LUK. (bad luck!) LUK adds to your Perfect Dodge (the "Lucky" dodge that
your character sometimes manages to squeze in) and your CRIT rate. More
CRITs and Perfect Dodges, better fighting ability! Seriously, LUK is a
very great stat, but most don't have enough stat points to squeeze any
usefullness on it. But, if you really want to get a high LUK, try raising
another stat. (like AGI for faster ASPD or STR for more damage per CRIT)
Archers should grab a few LUK for more frequent CRITs and automatic Blitz
Beats with their Falcons later when they change into a hunter (and an angry
CRIT Archer in PvP is the last thing you'll want to see, maybe except for
an equally angry GM in a nasty mood...) and Assassins, too, as it helps
their dodging ability and damage output. I also read somewhere that LUK
increases your min/max damage, but I don't know the exact data...
ATK: This is your base attack with your weapon included. ATK is dependent on
STR (DEX for bows) and +ATK bonus from your weapon. Good for everyone,
except mages and support acos of course.
MATK: Simply put, this is your base magic damage with bonuses from certain
weapons (like Wands) and your INT. Great for Mages, and Acolytes (for
healing and your Magnus Exorcismus). Crap for anyone else.
DEF: This value is kinda weird. The first DEF value you see on your stats is
your armor DEF (combined DEF of all your equipment). This value works on
percentages (ie 10 DEF would mean a reduced 10% damage from physical
attacks). The second value is your VIT DEF, which works by reducing damage
by the exact amount that you see on your DEF stat, more or less. (ie 50
DEF means that all physical damage you take is reduced by 50) This stat
works by reducing the physical damage dealt to you by your armor DEF, and
then that value is THEN reduced by your VIT DEF. Confusing? Read a few
     times and you'll understand.
MDEF: MDEF reduces the amount of magical damage you take. As of now, this stat
is useless except for PvP. But when Turtle Island comes better get some
armor that provides MDEF or you'll get creamed by enemy magic out there.
Lalo na yung may mga Jupitell Thunder diyan... Aray!
HIT: Simply put, this stat increases your chance to hit. Raise it by levelling
up, or raising DEX. I recommend you do both. ^_^
FLEE: This vital stat allows you to dodge whatever attack any monster would
throw at you. The higher, the better. This stat increases as you level
up, and as you raise your AGI. It's always good to have flee, whatever
job you are. The problem is, there is a 95% dodging cap based on your FLEE
so there's always a 1 in 20 chance of you being hit by whomever you're
      fighting.
ASPD: A very cryptic stat. A neighboring FAQ in GameFAQs told me how to get the
actual amount of ASPD your character has. Just look at one of RoboShop's
excellent weapon FAQ. The minimum is 100, which is slow as Hel, and 200,
which is already blindingly fast. And then cast Two-Hand Quicken on your-
self and have a blacksmith friend Adrenaline Rush you (teka? pwede ba
to?). Monsters, prepare to be hacked to pieces. Of course, vital for all
jobs, except for mages, who really don't need it.

\/\/\/                                                              \/\/\/

Whoa, this is a very tough chapter, but I can manage, as long as I get to
watch that RO video again!!! Let's start with some basics about skills:

*NOTE*: I have decided not to include job descriptions for 2nd jobs, mainly
since they require you to be at Job Level 40 with your 1st job. (which
by the time then, you would no longer be a newbie at this game!)

+------------+
Skills 101
+------------+
1. To use skills, one must first learn them. To learn a skill, one must first
get some skill points (not to be confused with SP).
2. To get skill points, raise your job level by killing monsters! (of course,
job EXP is different from base EXP)
3. Now, bring up the Skills window (ALT+S works well). If you have any unused
skill points, you will see their amount at the bottom of the Skills window. If
you have any, use them up! The list of learnable skills will be shown in the
main part of the window. Skills that can be learned will have a button next to
their name that can be clicked to learn that skill.
4. Some skills can be learned repeatedly to provide a better effect! Some of
them can be learned 10 times, some of them 9 times, even more of them can be
learned up to 5, 3, or even once only!!!
5. There are two types of skills: Active and Passive. Active skills need to be
used (or activated, if you want to get technical about it) like an item. Most
Active skills cost some SP. Passive skills don't need to be used since they are
already activated by themselves (ie they are always in effect!)
6. To use an Active skill, you can select them in the Skills window and just
click on use to activate them, but that takes to much time! You could just hot-
key them, by pressing F12 and dragging that skill to any one of the slots! So,
if you want to use them, just press the corresponding letter of the slot your
hotkeyed skill is in (ie first slot is F1, second is F2, third is F3, etc etc)!
Of course, some skills require a target, so you know what to do!

1st Level Jobs

Swordsman, Defend the Right

+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
"A sword is a deadly weapon. Fighting techniques are what perfect killers."
                                          -- Kenshin Himura, Rurouni Kenshin
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+

Job Description:
The swordsman (swordie for short) is a job that usually gets to see a lot of
action. Usually, swordies are seen moving in and out of mobs, tanking for a
friend, and getting a hit a lot (but really doesn't matter, since swordies have
lots of HP). Swordies can equip many weapons, but the best weapons for swordies
(as of now) are two-handed swords and spears (preferrably two-handed swords,
since Swordies have a skill that raises two-handed sword attack). Swordie
skills are combat-oriented and may be defensive and offensive (Endure really
rocks!).

Thief, a Benevolent Picaroon (WTF?)

+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
"Rover, wanderer, nomad, vagabond; call me what you will."
-- Metallica, Wherever I May Roam
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+

Job Description:
Thieves are melee attackers, but unlike swordies, they don't have the HP to
take hits. Instead, thieves are proficient in dodging attacks like Hel and
generally attack fast with daggers (mainly because of Double Attack, which
allows your thief to periodically do double damage with a dagger attack). Also,
they have the ability to steal from monsters but don't get excited, it's not as
great as it sounds (I think it's dependent on DEX and LUK...). You really won't
have much skill choices as a Thief, you can go Envenom (a weak version of
Bash), Steal or Hide (kinda cool skill where your thief burrows into the
ground). Of course, my advice for thieves is to go daggers (bow if you want to
kick ass from range)!

Archer, penetrated the evil (???)

+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
"I can hit a bird in the eye, flying."
-- Sylvanas Windrunner, WarCraft III: Reign of Chaos
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+

Job Description:
If you want to kick the living crap out of anything without getting hurt your-
self, be an archer. Archers deal the MOST amount of raw damage, hands down. Not
only do you get a skill that raises your primary stat (DEX), you get to have a
powerful skill in the name of Double Strafe! You'll make higher levelled sword-
ies and thieves jealous, and not get hurt at all. You don't have much health
though, so stay away from mobs. Of course, the best weapon for your archer is a
good bow! (duuhhh)

Archers are very flexible in terms of builds. You could go AGI/DEX (MP5 build),
AGI/LUK (Mini-gun build), DEX/LUK (artillery build), DEX/INT (falconer build),
and many more that I won't list down here (because some of them are downright
crazy or for hardcore players only)...

Magician, the force of nature

+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
"Side effects may include: dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, water retention,
painful rectal itch, hallucination, dementia, psychosis, coma, death, and
halitosis. Magic is not for everyone. Consult your doctor before use."
-- Priest, WarCraft III: Reign of Chaos
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+

Job Description:
Ahhhhh... if there is such thing as a cool job, this is it. Mages are known for
their l33t spellcasting skills. They have lots of firepower with them, and will
mostly kill an enemy (if done correctly, that is) in a single casting. Is there
anything cooler than summoning lightning from the heavens to smite your foes?
Wands STRONGLY recommended. Obviously, INT is the way to go, with a good amount
of DEX to cast spells faster, and AGI for some dodging ability OR VIT for a few
points of DEF. Stay away from mobs if you don't have an insanely high Napalm
Beat (which is not recommended anyway, since it's a waste of skill points). In
aggresive dungeons, travel with a VIT based character for protection. Extremely
useful for any party (freezing enemies is nice). Just remember not to "sabog"
(ie a term for a allocating stats and skills like a five year-old child) your
character or you'll be sorry. Very.

Acolyte, as divine grace

+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
                                                  "The light is my strength."
-- Prince Arthas, WarCraft III: Reign of Chaos
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+

Job Description:
Acolytes (acos for short) are good samaritans, if you don't want to be one,
then don't be an aco. If there's one thing I hate its greedy acos gleefully
healing someone, for a price. In melee combat acos can hold their own, but their
choice of weapons is somewhat limited and they don't have fantastic offensive
skills. But they shine against undead, (that's why Payon Cave is aco
haven) and are the most defensively stable among all jobs!  Also, acos are party
staple! A good party always has a good aco taking care of injured members. Warps
are very nice, making acos the favorite form of transportation in Rune-Midgard
(hmmm... that doesn't sound right!). ^_^

Merchant, deal with a hope

Job Description:
Now this is a job for the couch potatoes of RO. Just find a nice spot where
lots of people can see you, open up a shop selling carrots, reds, and stuff
that you want to get sold, leave your computer and go to work (making sure that
you won't get disconnected or you're ruined), return eight hours later to see a
gigantic zeny boost!!! Such is the power of the merchant. Not only are you
doing a great service to fellow RO players, you also gain lots of money this
way. BTW, you can also give DC for people who are hard on cash or OC items they
acquired through hunting and sell those to an NPC to get lots of money.

Seriously, Merchants are weak in combat (their only combat skill is the power-
ful Mammonite skill that will cost you a BIG fortune should you abuse it) and
don't have the firepower to go to high-spawn rate, aggresive dungeons like
Payon Cave or Orc Dungeon. But, if you have the patience to train your merchant
up to Job Level 40, you can change him/her to an all powerful battlesmith! Kinda
like the Jester class from the old-skool RPG, Dragon Warrior III which you can
change into a Sage (a powerful class that can use Mage and Cleric class spells
and has better stats). Cool! Well, good luck. They can equip almost anything, so
go ahead and pick the weapon of your choice. Not recommended for first-timers,
but if you EVER manage to reach your 2nd job (which is the super-cool, ass-
kicking, blacksmith), you're a really good RO player! Few have the patience to
level up a weak merchant to a blacksmith. Of course, there are other legit ways
to, mind you! (like being tanked)

The good thing with merchants is that you won't really have to work hard for
money. Just go to GH and sell Fly Wings, Butterfly Wings, and Blue Gemstones. I
guarantee that these three things rake in a lot of zeny (GH pa!). Or buy a ton
of Reds and set up shop near dungeon entrances. Or go into the heart of a dun-
geon (kids, don't try this at home ^_^) and sell Butterfly Wings for people to
find solace from an hour of Vitata Card hunting... ^_^

Oh, and Weggy loves blacksmiths so much... ^_^

|_pRO_||_______________||_pRO_|
\  |  ||               ||  |  /
\/\/\/                 \/\/\/

Here are some builds that I know of for each job. These builds are *MINE*!
You may or may not agree with them. Basta ito mga builds ko.

*NOTE*: The "Where to Level" sections are not intended to cover Levels 50+,
since you're no longer a newbie anymore then. ^_^

+-----------------+
The VIT Swordie
+-----------------+

Simply put, this swordie has high HP and DEF that would allow him to take
lots of punishment without dying. This build takes incredibly low damage, dishes
out a lot, and is very economical with healing items! (remember that the more
your VIT, the more HP your healing items restore to you)

Pros:
1. Very durable and very hard to kill
2. Handles mobs easily
3. Deals large damage
4. Doesn't need much healing items because of high VIT
5. HP Recovery heals lots of HP

Cons:
1. Slow ASPD and may take ages to kill high HP monsters
2. Is easily killed by high DEF, high damage monsters (talo sila sa patagalan)
3. Quite boring to level

Starting stats:

9 STR
9 VIT
9 LUK
1 INT
1 DEX
1 AGI

What to raise:
STR = put some points into but don't overdo it, you'll need the points for VIT
AGI = this won't help you, you don't need the extra ASPD or FLEE
VIT = as many as you can
DEX = only enough to hit the monsters you're hunting decently
INT = I don't know about you, but I'll stay away from raising this stat
LUK = don't raise at all, leave at 9 but if you have some spare stat points,
then go ahead, extra criticals are not so bad!

Equipment:
If you want to be a knight, then use spears instead of two-handed swords. You
won't benefit at all from Two-hand Quicken and your only other skills are Count-
er Attack and Bowling Bash. If you take the spear skill path then you'll have
access to the insanely powerful Pierce skill (too bad Weggy underestimates it to
the point of writing it off as a bad skill), the Spear Stab which can be used
for mob control (since it pushes the target back a few tiles), the L33T Brandish
Spear skill which can be utilized to inflict heavy damage, the Spear Boomerang
which can be used as a powerful missile attack, and you can also get Counter
Attack and Bowling Bash! Don't forget to get Peco-Peco Riding to speed up your
walking speed and overall ATK with your spear. Cavalier Mastery should also be
maxed.
For crusaders, just get those skills that increase your survival (like Faith,
Heal, Defend, etc) and use a one-handed sword and shield instead. You won't need
Spear Quicken, anyway.
Get the highest DEF armor you could get your hands on. If you have the money,
go for slotted armor and slot anything that's good for you (my friend told me
that Zombie Prisoner Cards don't exist in pRO, just like Bongun Cards >_<).
The same goes for your headgear. Any swordie's dream headgear would be Bone
Helm, Fin Helm, and Iron Cain. That would amount to 12 DEF in total.
The best garment would be an Immune Manteau (Reydric Card). 'Nuff said.
I recommend a slotted pair of Boots for your VIT swordie. Try to slot a card
that adds maximum HP like Verit Card or Matyr Card. Eddga Card would also be
great since it gives you unlimited Endure, meaning that you won't flinch anymore
while being attacked.
A Necklace would help as an accessory, but Clips of Counter (Kobold Card)
would also do. Trust me, you WILL appreciate the CRIT boost that a Clip of
Counter gives.

Where to level:

Level 1-10: Anywhere near towns. Of course, don't go east of Payon since it hou-
ses pretty strong monsters... Try to get the swordie in your psycho
test (answer with "ma-angas" answers like "Ignore him"), so you
would get 10 Reds. Oh yeah. Just follow my build and you'll do well.
Level 11-20: You should become a swordie at Base Level 13. The test is quite ea-
sy. Now, go kick some Roda Frog/Willow ass. Got a few Job Levels?
Now go kill some Rockers. Stay there until EXP slows down. Now, go
to Culvert and level there. You should receive damage in single di-
             gits.
Level 21-30: Stay in Culvert until you've gotten some more skills and DEF. You
should have enough money to buy some good equips. If you've picked
up a few cards... Good. Sell them. And get that Bastard Sword! You
may want to go to Culvert 4 to kill Male Thief Bugs. Beware of mobs
since they will kill you fast. You shouldn't have much trouble with
them as long as you bring Reds (no one vends Carrots anymore...).
Level 31-40: When the EXP gets slow in Culvert, make a trip to Byalan Island and
level in the Undersea Tunnel. Stay in Level 2, since Level 1 sucks
and Level 3 is hard because of Obeaunes and Mermans (O_o). Try to
work up the stronger monsters gradually, hunt Vadons first then
Thara Frogs/Marinas if you're feeling confident. See that Cornutus?
Bash it to death. Oh, and don't make the mistake of using your Mag-
num Break here. It sucks badly. T_T Again... you should take pathe-
             tic damage from monsters here.
Level 41-50: Oh yeah! You may want to go to the Goblin map and kill Goblins.
Just bring some Reds. Orc Village isn't so bad, you'll make short
work of Orc Warriors (since you won't get hurt much). Payon might
cut it (Cave and eastern areas) but you might want to stay in Bya-
lan still. If you're going PvP, you'll need a Cranial Shield (Thara
Frog Card). Ultimate End got a slotted Shield from Cornutii (plural
of Cornutus ^_^) in Level 3...

+-----------------+
The AGI swordie
+-----------------+

The antithesis to the VIT swordie build, this build sacrifices HP for ASPD and
some FLEE. If utilized correctly, you can hack any monster to pieces with this
build, provided you have support and/or healing items to back you up.

Of course there is an AGI swordie build that pumps up LUK instead of STR for
high CRIT rate, but that's a different story. I'm dealing with the AGI/STR build
and hey, if you want criticals so badly, why not be an assassin?

Pros:
1. High ASPD lets you kill your enemies very fast
2. Is only hit occasionally which lets you save on healing items
3. Deals large amounts of damage due to high ASPD and decent ATK
4. Levels up easier than the VIT build because of faster killing
5. Decent HP

Cons:
1. For a swordie, this build's HP is quite lacking
2. Is easily killed by high ASPD, high damage monsters (do you notice a pattern
   here?)
3. May need to stock up on healing items when training in places where monsters
have high HIT and ATK values.
4. Quite weak at first

Starting stats:

9 STR
9 AGI
9 DEX
1 INT
1 LUK
1 VIT

What to raise:
STR = put some points into but don't overdo it, you'll need the points for AGI
AGI = as many as you can
VIT = ignore this stat, or if you want some extra DEF, pump it to a decent level
DEX = only enough to hit the monsters you're hunting decently
INT = I don't know about you, but I'll stay away from raising this stat
LUK = don't raise at all

Equipment:
Use two-handed swords if you're going to be a knight. Two-hand Quicken will
really help you boost your ASPD. Bowling Bash is also powerful. Peco-Peco Riding
is optional, but get it since you'll have lots of skill points left.
For crusaders, get a spear to take advantage of Spear Quicken. Other than
that, get some survival skills (Faith, Heal, and Defend) and maybe Holy Cross
and Grand Cross if you're going to MVP bosses.
As with the VIT swordie, get the highest DEF armor you can find. Slotted is
better, and I recommend slotting a Thief Bug Card for more AGI. Or a Zombie
Prisoner Card if you want extra HP (if it exists in pRO).
You may want to use a Sakkat/Angel Wings/Ghost Bandana for your upper head-
gear, to get the AGI boost. The lower two slots aren't as important, so it's
your call.
Garment? Two words: Mocking Manteau (Whisper Card). You can also try the
Immune Manteau if you want less damage from monsters.
I recommend the Green Boots (Matyr Card) for your AGI swordie. You can also
use a Male Thief Bug Card instead if you can't afford one or Mysteltainn Card if
you're filthy rich (or strong OR if it exists again... Weggy talaga o).
For accessories, I would recommend Clips of Counter for better damage output,
Clips of Flash for the Perfect Dodge (the *LUCKY* dodge, you know) bonus and
even more AGI (as if we haven't go enough ^_^). Or maybe an Athletic Belt (Kukre
Card) if you're really poor. Hey, it's better than a Brooch since it's easier to
get) ^_^
Want to be a Crusader? One-handed swords are better, IMO. Then you could use
those Shield skills (which might be something) and have more DEF to be the ulti-
mate tank! Equips are pretty much the same for an AGI knight, but you'll need a
good shield. Cranial Shield (Thara Frog Card) for PvP, anyone?

Where to level:

Level 1-10: Anywhere near towns. Of course, don't go east of Payon since it hou-
ses pretty strong monsters... Try to get the swordie in your psycho
test (answer with "ma-angas" answers like "Ignore him"), so you
would get some Reds. Oh yeah. Just follow my build and you'll do
well. You should bring some healing items because you'll get hit as
            a novice.
You should have decent ASPD and a few
Reds if the going gets tough.
Level 21-30: Stay in Culvert until you've gotten some more skills and FLEE/DEF.
You should have enough money to buy some good equips. If you've
picked up a few cards... Good. Sell them. And get that Bastard
Sword! Don't go to Culvert 4 because you'll just get killed. You
don't have the HP to withstand an MTB mob.
T_T Monsters should miss you on a
regular basis now. And your ASPD should be quite fast now.
Level 41-50: Payon's a great place for AGI swordies (Cave and eastern areas)!
Hunt Smokies, Elder Willows, the occasional Poison Spore (bleech),
and Bigfoots if you can handle them (IF you can, that is). Two
easts from Payon is also a great place. Beware of the Wanderer that
roams the map, though. He'll kill you before you can say "Kenshin".
There are Greatest Generals there. Stand two tiles before it, then
attack it. You won't get hit this way. And you'll get tons of EXP.
Eggyras are fine, but they have some FLEE and have quite high HIT
rates. And don't attack the Sohees yet until you're a knight... You
should bring some Awakening Pots for more ASPD. Speaking of ASPD...
You should be fast by now to kill monsters easily and not get hit
much. Oh, Byalan's still a great place, but Payon is better. ^_^

+-------------------+
The Slasher Thief
+-------------------+

Don't let the title fool you. This is the common thief build that many people
use. However, I must say that I have made some changes into it... Because of
blackdragon (of Ragnaboards), I have decided to... Well, you'll see in a minute.
^_^

This build will stem into three different paths: the katar assassin path, the
dual-dagger assassin path, and the rogue path.

Pros: (for the thief part only)
1. High ASPD lets you kill your enemies very fast
2. Is only hit RARELY which lets you save on healing items
3. Deals large amounts of damage due to high ASPD and decent ATK
4. Fast killing of monsters
5. HP's quite ok, because you won't get hit very much anyway

Cons: (ditto)
1. Abysmal HP for a melee character (*CUTE*'s archer even has higher HP than
my thief when we were of equal level!)
2. Is easily killed by high ASPD, high damage monsters (higher ASPD means more
chances to get hit and high ATK will kill you in no time)
3. May need to stock up on healing items when training in places where monsters
have high HIT and ATK values. (*cough* Pyramid Basement 1 *cough*)

Starting stats:

9 STR
9 AGI
9 DEX
1 INT
1 LUK
1 VIT

What to raise:
STR = not very much, you'll have Double Attack anyway (I believe this should be
      capped at 20)
AGI = as many as you can (more AGI = more ASPD to kill monster faster and more
FLEE which will be your main defense against monsters)
VIT = raise this stat only when you've reached your 2nd job, since by that time
you'll need all the DEF you can get your hands on
DEX = only enough to hit the monsters you're hunting decently, but Cyrus (our
resident thief guru) has his DEX at 9. He still misses on Smokies and Vi-
tatas as a thief... "But so what?" he says. This only goes for assassins,
for rogues, get it to a decent level, you're going to use a bow anyway...
INT = don't raise at all
LUK = don't raise at all until you've chosen your 2nd job (for assassins, this
is a priority after AGI, but for rogues... I believe you should cap this
      at 30)

*NOTE*: Want to be a katar/critical assassin? I recommend that you leave your
DEX at 9 for long-term reasons. Critical attacks never miss a target.
Cyrus and I recommend you to raise it only when you're high-levelled and
are in need of some minimum damage boost. Yes, I know, you'll miss on a
regular basis but you'll have an easier time raising your AGI to desired
levels. Wag kayo sa akin magpasalamat, kay Cyrus kayo magpasalamat! And
CRITs have constant value, which is your maximum damage, I think.

Equipment:
As a thief, I FORCE you to use daggers. No swords and bows, please. No, even
if you're going to be a rogue. IMO bow ASPD for thieves is PATHETIC. I had 55+
AGI when I equipped a bow. The ASPD was a measly 134. Meaning I was attacking at
pretty much the same rate as a VIT spear knight does. Pitiful damage too because
of my low DEX at that time. Now, back to the topic. I suggest you get your hands
on a +6 Stiletto (preferrably with 3 slots) and not a Damascus, because the +6
Stiletto ignores some DEF (ie that "+" that comes with it), and is cheaper. But
hey, Oridecon's getting cheaper. I saw someone vending it for 40k in Loki. So a
+5 Damascus is not far off...
Why not swords, you may ask? Just one answer: swords SUCK for thieves. Low
ASPD, no Double Attack, and you just look plain STUPID with that big-ass sword.
Para kang archer na may dagger at Guard. O kaya swordie na may dagger. And a
good dagger deals basically as much damage because of Double Attack.
Try to wear AGI boosting armor... Light Shoes (ChonChon Card), Quick Muffler
(don't go for Manteau because it's expensive), Speedy Padded Armor (since it's
quite easy to acquire) or a Ninja Suit... Try to get a Sakkat as well!
PecoPeco Cards should also help because thieves need more HP.
Get a Buckler too, you'll need it. If it's slotted, well... You go choose the
cards. Thara Frog Card would be a great choice. But be ready to sell it once you
become an assassin... (assassins only! rogues WILL need shields)

More to come...

Another brand-new section of the FAQ! This section shall deal about items!

+------------------+
Basic Item Facts
+------------------+

1. For those of you who really don't know, items are objects that can either be
used, equipped, sold, or have other various uses (ie cards, gift items, pet
   items, dyes, and ores).
2. Items can make or break a character. Thus, you'll be needing them! I don't
think you can survive without ANY items whatsoever.
3. Some items can only be used once, so be careful!
4. Others may break! (sadly, I don't know a way to prevent this, other than not
using Power Thrust as a blacksmith)
5. Not all items sell for their NPC sell price! Cards may sell for 10z to an NPC
but they are worth at least thousands of zeny! (millions if they're really
good) Please remember this pinch of advice! Last week I was selling my Poring
Card for 5k when this guy approached me and said, "10z lang iyang binebenta
   mo!" Whoa!
6. Some items have (apparently) no practical use whatsoever. But please don't
sell them at once! Trunks and feathers may have no practical use, but they
are needed for creating some cool items (please see Weggy's FAQ for them!)!
7. Some items are very, very, rare, worth millions. Should you ever get an item
with an unknown use, consult Weggy's FAQ to get a good idea of their prices!

+-----------------------------------------+
Common items that you should know about
+-----------------------------------------+

Carrot
Basically the best healing item in terms of zeny. Buy these. Buy a lot.

Carrot Juice
Hehehehe... *CUTE* stocks up on these. You'll have to do the Juice quest to be
able to brew one... Hey at least it heals a lot more! See Weggy's FAQ for more
details, and BTW, you're going to need lots of Empty Bottles if you plan on
using this as your main healing item.

Red Potion (reds)
Heals more HP than carrots, but are more expensive... Carrots are better! But
alas, not all places have a Carrot merchant setting up shop... >_<

Feather (not Feather of Birds)
You'll need 100 of these and some assorted items to get a Bunny Band!

Feather of Birds (not Feather)
You'll need 300 of these, a Romantic Gent, and 500z (is that correct?) to get
a Feather Bonnet, which is basically a Sakkat for archers and has more DEF

Trunk (just plain Trunk)
You'll need 120 of these and 10k to acquire a Sakkat, which is a cool headgear
that boosts your AGI, not to mention making you look L33T! Beware of scams where
1z Trunks (ie those with prefixes like "Fine-grained, Solid, Barren, etc") are
sold as if they were Trunks. Beware.

Pearl
Bought in Morroc, needed to make a Bunny Band!

Iron Ore
Needed to make Iron. Sorry, you can't do a thing with this if you're not a
blacksmith, but hey, you can hire one, can't you?

Iron
Various uses... It's a forging ingredient, and also is needed for making some
cool items. (like a Phantom of the Opera)

Coal
Quite rare, needed to make Steel as a blacksmith.

Steel
A pretty hard-to-acquire item, which doubles as a forging ingredient and is also
needed for making some cool items like Binoculars! (which are unbelievably hard
to get) Quite cheap nowadays.

+------------------------------+
Rare items! (and their uses)
+------------------------------+

Card (any card)
The RO equivalent of Diablo II's socketable items. If you've got one, by all
means keep it! (or sell it to PEOPLE) Should you get lucky to acquire a boss
card, you may sell it for at least 10 million with a super-rare item!!! (think
Ghost Bandanas...)

Doll (any doll)
No practical use, but they are cute! I believe that some people buy these for
some high prices... *wink wink*

Poor people who bought Rocker Dolls... >_<

Dead Branch
Spawns a random monster when used! Beware! You might summon a INSANELY powerful
monster that you can't defeat!!! (ie Reydrics, Baphomets, and Wanderers) For a
bit of mayhem, go to a place where there are lots of people, and use it. After-
wards, run!!! (I don't know if this is evil or something, but it is sure some
stress relief!) Sells for about 3-4k, but the pRO Pricelist FAQ below mine says
2k... I dunno!

Opal
Used to learn the new aco skill "Holy Light" which is a sort of a direct-damage
spell. Sells for about 10k. Nagmura.

4-Leaf Clover
From Mandragoras, needed to make a Bunny Band! As rare as it is, it sells for
tons of zeny.

Rough Oridecon
Needed to make Oridecon, which is used to refine Level 3 weapons, as well as a
forging ingredient. Sells for a decent amount of zeny.

Oridecon
Yeah! You can now refine that Level 3 weapon of yours, and (as a Blacksmith) you
can also forge certain weapons!!! Sells for a LOT of zeny (300k).

*NOTE*: Nagmura na ang Oridecon! It's street price in Loki is 45k nowadays. Oh
        yeah...

Rough Elunium
Needed to make Elunium, which is used to refine armor. Sells for a good amount
of zeny.

Phracon
Needed to refine (ie "upgrade") Level 1 weapons. Sells for 200z in upgrade shops
so don't be fooled by people! (I've seen someone sell Phracon for 500z!) >_<

Emveratarcon (sp?)
Like Phracon, but for Level 2 weapons this time. Sells for 1k in upgrade shops!
Quite useful, since lots of Level 2 weapons are really cool (like Stilettos, RPS
or Ring Pommel Sabers, Bastard Swords, and Jurs)!

Dyes
Needed to dye your hair, nothing special here. But Dyes are very hard to make,
since you'll need lots of items (and time, too) to get even one. The Black Dye
is pretty hot now, since by using it can you only get a black-haired character!

+---------+
Weapons
+---------+

(anything that has the Fire/Wind element, preferrably with the Very Strong at-
tributes, excluding the elemental katars which can't be imbued with them)
We all know that Fire is basically the best element in terms of killing monsters
all over Rune-Midgard. Earth and Undead monsters are weak to fire. And most mon-
sters you'll encounter in the Overworld are of the Earth element. And there are
Undead monsters who have great drops and give great EXP. So Fire is very strong.
Wind is also hot because of the famed Undersea Tunnel in Byalan Island, where
all monsters (except the dreaded Penomena) inside are of the Water element,
which is weak to Wind. That means that you can deal almost double damage against
everything in there if you have a weapon that has the Wind element! Our GM the
Ultimate End can take on anything in the Undersea Tunnel. Anything. Of course,
a weapon with the Very Strong attribute has added attack which is always nice.

Main Gauche
For those poor people, this is the way to go. The best Level 1 dagger. Dirt
cheap too.

Stiletto
A step up from the Main Gauche. Best Level 2 dagger. My thief used this for
more than half of her life. And it has never let me down. Nasa storage ko pa nga
e! ^_^

Gladius
Weaker than a Damascus, but is the only Level 3 weapon that can have 3 slots. So
if you want that Freezing Dagger combo, slot the Marina Cards into a 3-slotted
Gladius instead of a 3-slotted Stiletto. And get a wind dagger for the other
hand (assassins only). Well, Level 3 weapons are easier to upgrade now because
Oridecon price has dropped considerably. (Loki merchants sell Oridecon for 45k!)

Katana
Welcome to the wonderful world of two-handed swords! Level 1 only, very easy to
upgrade! StratoCrusader (my defunct Chaos swordie) has this.

Bastard Sword
For AGI knights who want to have some more CRIT, this is for them (of course,
the 3-slotted version is the norm). For poor swordies, this weapon has served
many. Hey, it's only Level 2! You can sometimes deal more damage with a +6 Bas-
tard Sword than say, an unupgraded Broadsword.

Broadsword
Some knights prefer this to the Claymore, which has superior ATK. Why? Because
of the extra 5 DEF it provides... ^_^

Claymore
Claymore is to AGI knights as a Lance is to VIT knights. Both are extremely pow-
erful. 'Nuff said.

Muramasa
170 ATK, +20% CRIT. Ouch. Dropped from Wanderers. So try and get it. ^_^

Masamune
200 ATK, +20 FLEE, reduces DEF to 0. Crap if you ask me. Knights need DEF.

Pike
Most people laugh at people with Pikes... But they don't know that a Pike is a
great weapon if you need the DEF. It's only one-handed, meaning you can equip a
shield with it. And Ultimate End has a famous Wind Pike that has made him the
Savior of Byalan. Mermans are no match! His pike may not have the Very Strong
attribute, but it is still hellishly powerful. The times he tanked me in Byalan
3 (pre-Comodo), I've seen how he uses it and it gives me a vague wish to follow
his footsteps... (pero archer o mage na lang... sawang-sawa na ako sa melee)

*Author's Note*: Ultimate End also has a Fire Pike. But both Pikes are now gone.
We will miss them dearly. They have served us well. Damn you
                 keylogger! T_T

Lance
For raw damage, the Lance is at the top of the pack, which makes it a great wea-
pon for VIT knights. With a maxed Spear Mastery, you can deal even more damage.

Stunner
Weapon of choice for Battle Priests. Low chance to stun. Great attack. Worth
getting.

3-slotted Chain
Or... If you have some great cards down there in your Storage... Then this is
the way to go. Easier to upgrade, also. Triple Critical/Bloody Chain, anyone?

3-slotted Jur
You can get these babies from Martins in Payon 2, Coal Mines or in Orc Dungeon.
But you may ask: "why are Jurs preferrable to stronger katars like Jamadhars?"
It's simple. Katar assassins need a high CRIT rate to dish out tons of damage.
2 Clip of Counters are not enough. You'll need a Soldier Skeleton Card and slot
it on your 3-slotted Jur to boost your CRIT rate. Let's see... Which katar has
the most slots? A bought Jur has only 2 slots. A bought Katar has a measly 1
slot, and I don't think it's easy to acquire a 2-slotted Katar, if there
actually is one. A Jamadhar has NO slot whatsoever (slotted Jamadhars sell for
millions of zeny). And a Jur is easy to upgrade since it's a Level 2 weapon, as
opposed to the other katars which are either unupgradable or hard to refine be-
cause of their high weapon level.

Jamadhar
For those with 3-slotted Jurs but have nothing to slot on them (like me...),
this is the way to go. Has the highest attack of all katars, excluding elemental
weakness modifiers. Of course, if you get an SS card, then you'll have to retire
this weapon and get a 3-slotted Jur instead.

Balmung
This is only for GM's. I doubt it if you could get one, but Cyrus has one, and
it's also a +7 Balmung. 200 ATK, +20 INT, +20 LUK. Wow. This will make you a GOD
if you get one but be careful of hackers...

+--------------+
Hot Headgear
+--------------+

Elven Ears
Status symbol of RO. If your character can wear this, then he/she is Level 70+.
No DEF, but hey, it's cool! Ang mga angas na guild, mahilig dito. Kakasa ka ba?

Headset
If you've seen the chibi male wiz art, you'll notice that he's wearing this...
Quite nice to have, it's also an ingredient for Ear Muffs.

Ear Muffs
A better Headset. >_<

Binoculars
Archers just love this... Along with an AoA (Apple O'Archer). Nice stats.

Apple O'Archer
No DEF, but adds +3 to your DEX. Great for everyone, but archers benefit mostly.

Munak Hat
This is very cool, contrary to some people might say (that you look like a total
ass in it, since there's this big paper thingie that blocks your face), but
blind archers sound AND look cool! Get them by hunting Munaks in Payon Cave 3...
But be warned: it's not that easy to get (our Faith Healer once LIVED in Payon 3
and it took him ages to get one, but our new recruit got one in less than 5
minutes!). Stats are +5 DEF, 10% reduced damage from undead monsters (which
makes it excellent for undead-killing acos). Unfortunately, you can't wear any
other headgear than this, since this giant occupies all three Head slots in your
Equip menu...

And I want this real bad. >_<

*Author's Note*: Now I don't need this item very badly. My mage's not going to
whack any undead sooner than you think.

Sakkat
Simply put, this headgear makes you L33T! It's kinda hard to make one (yes, you
can only make one through item creation methods), needing 120 (yes, 120!) Trunks
(plain Trunks) and 10k to make one! Of course, it's not too shabby, boasting a
+3 DEF and +1 AGI. Great for AGI-based characters. I think a Sakkat sells for
200k on the street, but I've seen a merchant sell it for exactly 130k! Worn on
the upper Head portion.

*Author's Note*: Di na masyado sikat Sakkat ngayon... dati sobra... nyahahaha...
Pero cool pa rin sa Sins.

Santa Hat
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! HO HO HO HO!!! No, it's not Santa Claus, but the Santa Hat
boasts of +1 DEF, +1 MDEF, and +1 LUK, which is awesome! Stat bonuses are always
welcome, right?

Ghost Bandana
A step up the Sakkat, a Ghost Bandana has a whopping +2 AGI! Problem is, you'll
have to get it from the mini-boss Ghostring, which is ALMOST invincible to phy-
sical attacks. No DEF, too. Doh!

Poo-Poo Hat
Looks like someone pooped on your head. But demi-human monsters do less damage
to you. Very useful in PvP. Get from Bigfoots.

Masquerade
Aside from very cool-looking, it gives you reduced damage from demi-human
monsters, just like the Poo-Poo Hat, but is worn in the middle. (Tama ba? Sabi
na naman ng isang tao ay "more damage to demi-human"? Hirap makahanap kasi nito
e.)

Bunny Band
Now, if there's a hard thing to do, it's creating a Bunny Band! First, you'll
need a Kitty Band, which is very hard to get from Smokies, probably even rarer
than the card itself! You'll also need a 4-leaf Clover and 100 Feathers... But
hey, it sure is *CUTE* (no, not my friend *CUTE*)!

Helm
Nothing special here, but +6 DEF is already a great amount. Not to mention
looking really cool.

Bone Helm
Dropped from Khalitzburgs, and has quite a hefty price tag. It adds a whopping 8
DEF! However, you need to be of Base Level 70+ or something to equip it. Angas
ka pag may ganito.

Fin Helm
Worn on the middle head slot (stupid me, so you can wear a Helm and a Fin Helm
both). This is a status symbol for swordsmen and knights, since you need to be
at level 60 to wear it. It has 2 DEF, which is pretty hefty compared to Shades
and the like... Hey, at least that Knight dude in that cool RO transition screen
wears it, along with a Wind Katana. IMO, you'll look like a merman in it, or a
mermaid if you're a girl. And while I'm talking about mermans and stuff, this
item is dropped by Obeaunes, BTW. Just beware of their husbands... ^_^

Iron Cain
Worn on the lower head slot, makes you look more like a knight! 2 DEF is quite
decent. Mukha kang bulldog pag sinama sa Snow Horn o sa Elven Ears.

Fancy Flower
Special request from my friend Mika! From Creamies, and not suitable for boys!
No DEF, but it sure is cute.

Sweet Gent
This is the dropped from the miniboss Dragonfly... Hot among the males. Our GM
has one, and he used four Eluniums to add more DEF. It has 2 DEF.

Romantic Gent
Much like the Sweet Gent, but is more useful (read: less fashionable) since you
can change it into a Feather Bonnet... Dropped from the Vocal Rocker. Stats are
the same with the Sweet Gent (maybe except for the Weight, but I haven't checked
it yet)

Western Grace
As Weggy says, this hat makes "you look like a pimp in it". 3 DEF also. Dropped
from the Vagabond Wolf. Very fashionable for both genders... Especially Black-
smiths!

Queen Ribbon
Dropped from Toad (no, not the guy from X-Men). Very fashionable among the wo-
men. Higanteng ribbon. I think it has pitiful stats but is cute.

Angel Wings
VERY, VERY, GOOD. +1 DEF, +1 MDEF, +1 AGI, and +1 LUK! This really sells for a
lot. Get this for an Angel Helm.

Evil Wings
Dunno about the stats yet... I think this is dropped from Deviruchis... Basical-
ly like Angel Wings but is colored dark. +1 DEF, +1 MDEF, +1 STR raw? If I'm
wrong, blame it on Cyrus. Gago ka!

Majestic Goat
Dropped from Baphomet, looks really cool. +5 DEF and +1 STR. 'Nuff said. Mahal
ang benta dito... Cornucopia nga naman o.

Boy's Cap
You will need 10 Tiger Footskins from Eddga to make one of these. Certified MVP
Master ka kapag meron kang ganito. 2 DEF lang pero talagang status symbol ito.
Sasambahin ka ng mga tao lalo na kapag may kasamang Elven at Pipe

Pipe
Dropped from Eddga, also. No DEF, but it's another status symbol. Like we don't
have enough of them.

Corsair
Dropped from Drake. Mukha ka talagang pirata dito. Samahan mo pa ng Pipe at
Single Glass ay talagang pirata ka na! ^_^ Stats are +5 DEF and +1 VIT. Yung
friend ko sa Ragnaboards, ang avatar niya yung character niya na naka-Corsair.
Aliw.

More to come...

Matuloy sana ang "St. Benedict and his Merry Beneans" na plano namin! Isa na
  namang extension ng Testament!!! ^_^

  na rin sa wakas.
